Relato del mes del English Reading Circle – Sesión de enero 2015
Nueva sesión del club de lectura en inglés “English Reading Circle” con Andrew Bennett como moderador.
Para aprender sobre la literatura contemporánea norteamericana a través de la lectura y la discusión de relatos cortos en línea.
Los encuentros tendrán lugar en la biblioteca un martes al mes de 14:30 a 15:30 h. de septiembre a junio.
Los interesados pueden comunicarse previa y posteriormente con el grupo a través de este blog, añadiendo comentarios a esta entrada y/o a las incluidas por el moderador.
La actividad es gratuita con inscripción preferente para socios de la biblioteca. La inscripción se realiza desde el apartado de Agenda, rellenando el formulario asociado a la actividad.
Para participar es necesario tener un nivel de inglés intermedio alto (B2) o superior. Por ello la primera vez será necesario contactar con biblioteca@iie.es para enviar si es posible algún documento que acredite el nivel de inglés o en su defecto concertar una prueba de nivel.
Ciclo 2014- 2015: “Great Short Stories from Lesser Known Authors, Lesser Known Short Stories from Great Authors”.
Lectura del mes: “Oh, Joseph, I’m So Tired” by Richard Yates.
“Perhaps the best is the first – ”Oh, Joseph, I’m So Tired.” In it we meet again the divorced mother, this time an untalented sculptor of garden statuary who, through connections, gets the chance of a lifetime: to ”do” a head of President-elect Roosevelt. The taking of F.D.R.’s head measurements and the presentation of the finished product (small, made of burnished lead) at the White House provide a frame within which Yates has constructed an intricate memory piece (related by the woman’s now grown son) of life in Greenwich Village in the early years of the Depression.”
