This 10-hour course will meet every two weeks to explore the role of the Space Race in the Cold War, from the Soviet launch of Sputnik in 1957 to the U.S. moon landing in 1969, fifty years ago. We will consider how and why relations between the United States and the Soviet Union came to be understood as an ideological competition for global dominance, as well as examine the political and cultural legacy of the Space Race.
This course is designed for learners with an upper-intermediate level of English.
