The United States is home to the largest Jewish community in the world. Why did millions of Jews come to the U.S.? How did America shape the Jews who came—and how did they, in turn, shape American culture, politics and society? This course will explore the development and evolution of the Jewish community in the United States through overlapping perspectives of politics, ethnicity, socioeconomics, urban identity, feminism, religious expression and secular culture. Particular attention will be paid to the construction of American Jewry in the 20th and 21st century.
This course is designed for learners with an Advanced or Proficiency level of English.
