“It tells the moving autobiographical story of an Iranian girl in the midst of Islamic fundamentalism, from the Islamic revolution to the present day. When fundamentalists take power forcing women to wear veils and jailing thousands of people, Marjane discovers punk, ABBA and Iron Maiden as she lives through the terror of persecution by the new government and the war in Iran and Iraq. As a teenager she is sent to Europe, where she can finally compare other cultures to the religious fundamentalism she escaped."
