“The year is 1566. After fleeing the Venetian occupation of Crete, his native island, the painter Domenicos Theotocopoulos (Nick Ashton) arrives in Venice and begins working in Titian's studio, where he soon stands out from the rest of the artists. There he is discovered by El Niño de Guevara (Juan Diego Botto), a Spanish priest with whom he maintains a strange relationship. Years later, the painter moved to Madrid and fell in love with Jerónima de las Cuevas (Laia Marull), the daughter of a military nobleman, with whom he had a son. The couple settles in Toledo, a city where El Greco triumphs as an artist. His privileged position leads him to surround himself with the highest political and religious spheres, including his old friend Niño de Guevara, now the Grand Inquisitor. Although the deep rejection that the artist feels for the Inquisition will soon lead him to openly confront it.”
