"The Blue of Hell" by Carlos Barral

“In November 1989, Carlos Barral began to write a «commissioned nouvelle»: a story based on the painting El Paso de la Laguna Estigia, by the Flemish painter Joachim Patinir, exhibited at the Prado Museum. This text would form part of an editorial project aimed at exploring the role of painting as a source of inspiration for literature. However, Barral passed away on December 12 of that same year, leaving the narrative unfinished, and the project never saw the light of day. This volume recovers for the first time the author's unpublished and unfinished account and collects his diary entries up to December 5, 1989, just a few days before his death.
