Cultural recommendation for the weekend

Exhibition of Martín Ramírez “Frames of imprisonment”

“With very limited materials and resources, Martín Ramírez (1895-1963) managed to create an amazing work, over a period of about fifteen years, while he was an intern at DeWitt State Hospital in Auburn, California. Ramírez drawn in a room he shared with dozens of men, also confined by their mental and physical disabilities, and perhaps because they were destitute, poor and unemployed. Ramírez's workspace was in a corner of the pavilion. He kept the drawings of him under the mattress, to protect them. His art tools were stacked on a nightstand. Secluded in that shared space, he embarked on his adventure as a self-taught artist. ”
