“How to analyze a film” by Francesco Casetti and Federico Di Chio

“This book attempts to provide a basic method for the analysis of films and, more generally, of audiovisual texts. Taking into account some of the most advanced experiences in this field, it suggests how to plan the work, what instruments to use and what objectives to pursue. In principle, the techniques of decomposition and recomposition of the film are illustrated, which on the one hand lead to its constitutive unit and on the other to the principles of its operation.
