“The confessions of a little philosopher” by José Martínez Ruiz, “Azorín”

“There are few works in contemporary Spanish literature as seductive as The Confessions of a Little Philosopher. With it, Azorín closes the autobiographical trilogy that began with The Will, whose protagonist presents the theme of the formation of the intellectual and his struggle against the environment, as well as the conflict between action and contemplation. We are not faced with a different novel, what we now call a lyrical novel, in which attention shifts from the anecdotal plot to the inner levels of emotion.”
