Do you want to know much more about technology, programming and electronics?


#GirlsTech gives you the opportunity to access the latest technological tools, 
and to American culture and values. 
The United States Embassy sponsors the third edition of the #GirlsTech program. The initiative, developed in 2015 in collaboration with the organizations MujeresTech, American Space Madrid and the International Institute, continues this year offering workshops from October to February 2017.

The program aims to attract school-age girls to the field of technology and motivate them to study careers in the field of science, mathematics, engineering or technology-related careers, known in the United States by the acronym of Science, technology, engineering and mathematics: STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts & mathematics, in English).

On this occasion, the Embassy sponsors 150 scholarships to participate in this technology training program for girls administered by the Association WomenTech in the American Space Madrid, located at the International Institute in Spain (c/Miguel Ángel 8).

Girls from 9 and 12 years between. The scholarship includes registration fees, 3 workshops of 2 hours duration and the necessary material for the development of these workshops. The girls will be accompanied by a monitor during the 2 hours of each workshop.


Objectives

  • Provide significant knowledge in the field of science, mathematics, engineering or related to technology, known in the United States as STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts & mathematics, in English).
  • Promote comprehensive training and transmit values ​​such as teamwork, leadership, entrepreneurship, critical thinking, an open mind, etc.

Services

  • 3 technology workshops lasting 2 hours on Friday or Saturday for three consecutive weeks.
  • Material for the classes.
  • Supplementary activities: visits to US technology companies with offices in Spain, meetings with women experts in this field.

Requirements

  • Possess Spanish nationality or be a legal resident in Spain.
  • Age: 9 to 12 years old at the time of application submission.
  • The call is open to all families, although priority will be given to those families that provide the income tax certificate for the year 2015 of the parents or guardians, and whose family income is lower than the average income of the community in which they reside.

Training itinerary

  • Video game design with Scratch: Scratch is a form of programming developed by MIT that is based on using a series of blocks that fit together to form programming statements.
  • How do 3D printers work?: 3D Printing and Parametric Design with Tinkercad and Blockscad.
  • Animatronix: In this workshop, Littlebits will be used, blocks joined by magnets that allow to give movement and life to anything through lights, sound, motors, etc.

The workshops will take place from October to February, on Friday or Saturday:

  • Hours Friday: 18:00 pm to 20:00 pm
  • Saturday Hours: 11:30 a.m. to 13:30 p.m.

Attention:

The choice of group confirms the commitment to attend on the dates indicated for each group.

The commitment to attend all group sessions is an essential requirement. If the student accumulates an unjustified absence of attendance, the American Space Madrid, will agree to the cancellation of registration that had been formalized and the final certificate will not be offered.

 Admission to the program will be made in strict order of registration until completing the 150 places offered and will be confirmed by the American Space Madrid.

Optional: Although the call is open to all families, priority will be given to family incomes below the average income of the community in which they reside. In this case, please provide the Income tax certificate of the last fiscal year issued by the Tax Agency of the central Administration, specifying the number of members of the family unit.
