American Space Madrid Poetry in English and Urban Art Photography Contest – 2018-19 Edition

The poetry contest in English “Finding Our Collective Voice” arises as an extension of the activity “Group Discussion for Teens" of the American Space Madrid at the International Institute and is aimed at young people who are studying ESO or baccalaureate in the Community of Madrid.

The contest categories are as follows:

  • original poem.
  • Original piece of poetry created to be read aloud.
  • Original collective poem to be interpreted among the group's companions (no more than 5 participants per group).
  • Individual or collective recording of a performative poem or “Spoken Word” to be heard at the spring poetic exhibition.

The winners will receive a diploma from American Space Madrid that will be delivered at the "Poetry Gallery" that will take place before the end of the academic year in June 2019 (date to be confirmed).

Parallel to this contest, American Space Madrid is also launching the "ASM Street Art Photography Contest" only for participants of the "Group Discussion for Teens" activity. Students who wish to do so may send original photos of works of urban art that they find interesting or provocative and explain why in a short text in English of no more than 300 characters.

Bases of the poetry contest in English:

Open to: young people who are studying ESO or baccalaureate in the Community of Madrid, without restrictions by nationality or residence

Participate in the poetry contest in English "Finding Our Collective Voice" that arises this course as an extension of the activity "Group Discussion for Teens" of the American Space Madrid in the International Institute. A select group of members from American Space Madrid, the International Institute and the United States Embassy will make up the jury.
Once the contest is over, a poetic exhibition or “Poetry Gallery” will take place to celebrate the results.

Bases of the annual contest  

Entrants may submit one or more of the following options (with a maximum of three pieces per entrant in each category):

• Original poem.

• Original piece of poetry created to be read aloud (students can read the poem in the poetry exhibit or choose a volunteer from American Space Madrid to read it on their behalf).

• Original collective poem to be interpreted among the group's companions (no more than 5 participants per group).

• Individual or collective recording of a performative poem or “Spoken Word” to be heard at the spring poetic exhibition.

The works must be original, unpublished and not have been awarded in any other literary competition.

They must be sent by email to: americanspace.madrid@iie.es including the following contact information: name, surnames, email and telephone.

Note:

It is necessary to send the typed work(s) in PDF format or as an audio file.
All works must be in English and can be sent in a single message indicating the corresponding category(ies).

Open to: young people who are studying ESO or baccalaureate in the Community of Madrid, without restrictions by nationality or residence and who have participated in the American Space Madrid activity "Group Discussion for Teens" in the 2018-19 academic year.
