The Nur Choir was founded in 2007 by José Manuel López Blanco with the aim of disseminating sacred and secular choral music of the 2012th and 21st centuries. In his career since then he has had the opportunity to offer concerts in Spain and France. Among his numerous performances, his participation in the Segorbe, Benidorm and Via Magna festivals stands out, and he has regularly participated in the cycles of Clásicos en Verano, Madrid Sacred Art Festival and Madrid COMA Contemporary Music Festival, where some of their concerts for later broadcast on Radio Clásica. Another of its regular activities is collaborating with composers for the premiere of their works. In addition to the premiere in XNUMX of an opera by Eduardo Costa with electronics, in recent years he has collaborated on several occasions with the instrumental group Cosmos XNUMX, directed by Carlos Galán, and won various prizes in prominent national competitions.
On this occasion, the Nur Choir proposes to begin its performance with two works by contemporary Spanish composers as a small sample of our current artistic scene. Then, on the occasion of the commemoration of the Year of Federico García Lorca in the Community of Madrid, we will perform three pieces based on texts by this great poet that have served as inspiration for musicians even from countries as distant as the Philippines or Finland.
Although none of the poems that we are going to listen to actually belong to Lorca's book Poet in New York, in memory of the writer's trip to the city of skyscrapers, we wanted to end our program for the International Institute with five compositions by renowned American artists such as Samuel Barber or John Cage. We hope that this trip between Lorca and the United States will be to his liking.
