The film focuses on the most explosive period of Charles' career, beginning when this blind young black man boards a bus alone in Florida and crosses the country to find himself in Seattle's burgeoning jazz scene. When he is discovered by Atlantic Records, he begins his unstoppable rise to fame, but also his addiction to drugs and women.
