SPEAKER: Ms. Georgina Higueras y Rumbao
Georgina Higueras y Rumbao (Sigüenza, Guadalajara, 1955), has a degree in Information Sciences from the Complutense University of Madrid (1979). She studied Chinese and did a master's degree at Peking University on 'History of China's International Relations: From the Opium War to Liberation (1840-1949)'.
She was a delegate of the EFE Agency in Beijing between 1982 and 1984. Diplomatic correspondent for EFE in Washington (1984-1986) and delegate in Strasbourg (1987). Since September 1987, she has worked at El PAÍS, where she has dedicated herself mainly to Asia as a special envoy. She was a correspondent for Cadena SER in Moscow between 1997 and 2001. At the end of that correspondentship she returned to EL PAÍS, where she continues to work on Asia. Between October 2009 and May 2010, she was Director General of Defense Communications.
As a war correspondent, she has covered numerous conflicts, including the main ones in the Middle East in the last two decades; the Vietnamese invasion of Cambodia, the wars in Afghanistan, the two in the Gulf, the second in Chechnya, Israel against Hezbollah in Lebanon and the one in Georgia. He interviewed numerous heads of state and government, including Jiang Zemin, Nelson Mandela, Mikhail Gorbachev, Yitzhak Rabin, Yasir Arafat, Benazir Bhutto, Norodom Sihanuk, Mohamed Najibullah, and others.
Vice President of China Chair and Director of the Asia Forum at the Foro de Foros Foundation, journalist specializing in Asia, writer and assistant professor at various universities, including Hubei University (Wuhan, PR China).
She is the author of the books China, Dragon's Revenge (Peninsula, 2003), Asian awakening (Peninsula, 2005) and Haiti, a commitment to hope (Peninsula, 2011). His first work of fiction In search of my Chinese sister, published it in 2018.
