Animal research project Young Learners 3
Para finalizar el trimestre de otoño, los alumnos de Young Learners 3 hicieron proyectos de investigación sobre un animal de su elección. En las lecciones de Brainpop ESL que habían estudiado, habían aprendido sobre las características de los mamíferos y también sobre las bibliotecas. Así incorporaron vocabulario y estructuras de las dos unidades para hacer su propias investigaciones.
Cada alumno eligió un animal, y juntos decidieron qué información iban a buscar. Practicaron tomar notas de la información más relevante utilizando organizadores gráficos. Después pasaron sus notas a formato párrafo con la ayuda de un “writing frame.” Writing frame animal page.
Cada alumno tenía que escribir e ilustrar por lo menos una página de un libro, que ahora se puede ver en la Biblioteca del Instituto. Y al final, cada persona presentó su información de manera oral a todo el grupo. Los alumnos no queríancompartir los vídeos de sus presentaciones en el blog, pero sí los pudieron ver, para ver lo que hicieron bien y lo que intentarían mejorar la próxima vez.

To finish off the fall term, the Young Learners 3 students worked on research projects about animals of their choosing. In the Brainpop ESL lessons they had studied, they had learned about mammals and about libraries. So they incorporated vocabulary and structures from both units while doing their own research projects.
Each student chose an animal, and the class decided which information they should look for. They practiced note-taking using graphic organizers. Then they put the information from their notes into sentences using this writing frame: Writing frame animal page.
Each student had to write and illustrate at least one page for a class book, which is now on display in the Institute’s Library. When the book was finished, each student presented his or her information orally to the whole class. The students didn’t want to share the videos of their presentations on the blog, but they did get to watch them in class, so they could see what they did well and what they will try to improve next time.
