Kids’ Club Winter Activities
Back from the holiday break, Jennifer’s Kids’ Club group welcomed the winter season with stories and songs about the snow. The kids continued with the poetry unit, learning a new one to role play: The Snow People. Designing their snow people with the glitter created a lot of excitement! The poem goes like this:
The Snow People
(Number of children) little snow people standing in a row
Each with a hat and a big, red bow.
Out came the sun, and it stayed all day.
Then one little snow person melted away.
The group also started a Winter Readers’ Tree. Just as they did in the fall, the kids brought in the names of the books they’ve read at home and add the titles to snowflakes for their tree. For those who haven’t had a chance to see it yet, the Fall Readers’ Tree can be found in the children’s area of the library. The winter tree will be there as soon as it’s filled with snow!
As they moved into February and Valentine’s Day approached, the group started talking about friendship and what it means to be a good friend. They began an author study of Oliver Jeffers books. Both Lost and Found and How to Catch a Star talk about the theme of friendship. The kids wrote their second class book entitled Being a Good Friend Means…. This book and their Thanksgiving book also have their own special spot in the library so the children can continue reading it! Just ask the librarians if you haven’t found it on your own.
Since Kids’ Club returned in January, they’ve also been talking about the baby growing in Jennifer’s belly! February 23rd Jennifer came to say good-bye, and Daniel joined the group as their new teacher. It’s time for Jennifer to get ready for baby’s arrival, and surely the kids are going to have lots of fun adventures ahead with Daniel!
De vuelta de las vacaciones, el grupo de Jennifer de Kids’ Club dió la bienvenida al invierno. Los niños siguieron con la unidad de poesía, aprendiendo un poema nuevo: “The Snow People.” ¡Diseñar sus propios muñecos de nieve con purpurina fue muy emocionante! Así va el poema:

Al empezar febrero, cerca del día de San Valentín, empezaron a hablar sobre la amistad y lo que significa ser un buen amigo. El grupo empezó un estudio de autor con los libros de Oliver Jeffers. Ambos, Lost and Found y How to Catch a Star, hablan de la amistad. Los niños han escrito su segundo libro, que se titula Being a Good Friend Means…. Este libro y el libro que escribieron para el día de acción de gracias tienen su propio lugar en la biblioteca. Se puede preguntar a las bibliotecarias si no lo encuentran.
También empezaron un nuevo árbol de invierno de la lectura. Igual que hicieron en otoño, los niños han traído los nombres de los libros que han leído en casa y han puesto los títulos en las copas de nieve para el árbol. Para los que aún no han visto el árbol de otoño, se le puede encontrar en el rincón de los niños en la biblioteca. ¡El árbol de invierno estará allí cuando ya esté lleno de nieve!
Desde la vuelta en enero, también han estado hablando sobre ¡el (o la) bebé que está creciendo en la barriguita de Jennifer! El 23 de febrero Jennifer vino para despedirse, y Daniel se incorporó al grupo como su nuevo profesor. Ya es hora para que Jennifer se preparare para la llegada de su bebé, y ¡seguramente los niños van a tener muchas aventuras más con Daniel!
