Poetry Month in Young Learners 3
Young Learners 3 experimented with writing some poems in their English classes in April. They looked at some examples and then wrote their own poems following the model.
For the first poem, the students brainstormed ideas about things they can and can’t do. They used picture dictionaries to help them with more varied ideas. Then they chose at least five sentences to include in their poems. putting the positive ideas last in each sentence. 
Finally, they illustrated their poems at home.
The second poem was an acrostic poem, with the theme of Earth Day, which was April 22nd. The class did some reading and discussion about Earth Day, as well as an activity about the Air Quality Index. Then each student chose one aspect of nature or conservation to write their acrostic poem about. 
They wrote the main word down the left-hand side of the page, using the first letter to start sentences about that word. Again, the students illustrated their work at home. Didn’t they do a fantastic job?
For now their poems are on display in the Institute Library for all to see.

La clase de inglés de Young Learners 3 hizo sus primeros intentos de escribir poesías en inglés en abril. Estudiaron varios ejemplos y luego escribieron poemas originales con sus propios ideas.
Para la primera, hicieron listas de actividades que sabían y no sabían hacer utilizando las estructuras can y can’t. Miraron unos diccionarios con imágenes para ayudarse. Después escogieron por lo menos 5 ideas de su lista para elaborar frases, ¡siempre poniendo la idea positiva la última para terminar de manera optimista!
Después de editar y corregir sus poesías, las pasaron a limpio y las ilustraron en casa.
Para la segunda poesía, que coincidía con el Día de la Tierra, 22 de abril, cada alumno eligió una palabra que tuviera que ver con la Tierra o la ecología. Escribieron estas palabras en vertical a la izquierda, utilizando la primera letra de cada línea para empezar una frase que tuviera que ver con la palabra principal.
De nuevo, editaron e ilustraron sus obras en casa. ¿A que lo hicieron fenomenal?
