Inside the Wyeths with Curator Timothy J. Standring: Recap and Thanks

Last Friday, June 1oth, the International Institute and the American Cultural Studies Program presented a talk by Dr. Timothy Standring, curator of the exhibition “Wyeth. Andrew and Jamie in the Studio,” currently ongoing at the Museo Thyssen-Bronemisza. The event was attended by more than seventy people, and made for an entertaining and intellectually stimulating evening. Dr. Standring was introduced by Alexa Brooks, ACS instructor in American Art History.  Dr. Standring’s talk, entitled “Messy Painting and Fleeting Moments: The Studio Practice of Andrew and Jamie Wyeth,” took the audience inside the Wyeths’ studios, illustrating the precise nature of the artists’ technical mastery and inspiring a greater degree of artistic appreciation for these American masters from all those in attendance. The talk was followed by an informal and enjoyable drink in the IIE garden, where Dr. Standring chatted and shared stories with attendees.

We at ACS and IIE would like to thank all of those who attended. This event was a stirring success, and hopefully will be the first of many more American Cultural Studies events to follow.
