The 5 of the week by Mar Campelo (professor at BU)

Thursday / "in the last blue” by Carmen Riera

the-last-blue

The historical events on which En el último azul is based took place in Majorca between 1687 and 1691. On March 7, 1687, a group of Majorcan Jewish converts, fearing being arrested by the Inquisition, decided to set sail for lands of freedom . Bad weather frustrated their escape, they were arrested and, finally, thirty-seven of them were sentenced to the stake in four Autos de Fe, in the spring of 1691. The novel tries to recreate how the Majorcan crypto-Jews of the XNUMXth century lived and died, in a world in which inquisitors, aristocrats, merchants, peasants, bandits or venal women intersect, like the unforgettable Beatriu Mas offering a wide mosaic of events, in whose plot the reader is trapped from the first pages.
