Farewell to Francisco Casavella

casavellas

The first thing that was known in Barcelona about Francisco Casavella was his nightclub smile and his awkward figure of a writer disguised under which the great sentimentalists of literature protect themselves. It was when he burst in – he was 27 years old – with El triumph, the novel about the Barcelona gypsy. Yesterday mid-afternoon, when his editors at Destino were going to call him by phone to agree on details of how he was going to take over from the new Nadal award, they received, dismayed, the news of his death, due to a heart attack. His life has been like an exhalation: he was only 45 years old.
