Book of the month: “Nada” by Carmen Laforet

COLLOQUIUM: Thursday, February 25 at 19:30 p.m.

“Nada is a novel written by Carmen Laforet in 1944, which won the Nadal Prize on January 6, 1945; later, in 1948, he won the Fastenrath Prize from the Royal Spanish Academy. The work drew attention not only because of the writer's youth, who was 23 years old at the time, but also because of Laforet's description of the society of that time. (...) Nada is an existentialist novel in which Carmen Laforet reflects the stagnation and poverty in which post-war Spain found itself. The writer was able to convey with this work, written in a literary style that represented a renewal in the prose of the time, the slow disappearance of the petty bourgeoisie after the Civil War.”
