“After a heated argument with her future mother-in-law and her boyfriend, Rebecca (Natalie Portman), a young American student, gets into a taxi to return home. The driver of the vehicle is Hanna (Hanna Laszlo), a woman who has decided to go to Amman, a free zone in Jordan, to find a man known as 'the American' (Makram Khoury) who owes her and her husband money. Rebecca decides to accompany her, but the search for her proves fruitless. Leila (Hiam Abbass), a Palestinian married to 'the American', tells them that her stepson Walid went to the bank for the money but hasn't returned yet.
Taken from The Armchair.
