Young Learners 6: Problems We Face in Big Cities

YL 6 2015For a recent discussion and assignment writing, YL6 considered the following question: What will be the biggest challenge for large cities in the future and what can we do to help?

Students came up with many ideas and then shared their thoughts in writing. Some of the things they mentioned were noise, pollution, traffic, and stress among many others. They also suggested ways that we can all help to solve these problems. After working to review their essays, they presented their ideas to their classmates. Here is one of their essays:

Many people agree that pollution is the biggest challenge that we will have to face in the future. Modern cities are already full of pollution. In the future, citizens will have to deal with this. The bigger the city, the bigger the problem we will have. This will only get worse if we do not do anything. But what can we do to reduce pollution and improve our cities? City

Firstly, to reduce pollution we must use public transportation more often. I think that this solution is one of the best ones. This will reduce pollution and reduce traffic and noise and make the city a nicer and quieter place.

Another solution is using new technology like electric cars. Electric cars are smaller and cleaner for the environment. The problem is that nowadays they are not developed enough. A big problem is the price, as they are very expensive. Using electric cars will be a better solution when electric car technology improves.

Finally, we can increase the number of parks in the city. We also need to protect green spaces near big cities. This will give us more clean air.

In conclusion, there are a lot of things city-dwellers can do to reduce the amount of pollution. First we need to be aware of the problem. The easiest thing we can all do is use public transportation and do other small things to reduce traffic and pollution, especially in the city center where there is the biggest problem.

Young Learners 6: Problems we have in big cities

During a recent class discussion, YL6 posed the following question: What will be the biggest challenge for big cities in the future, and what can we do about it?

dischargeStudents thought of various problems and solutions, and then shared their ideas in writing. Some of the most commented aspects were noise, pollution, traffic and stress. DAfter editing their essays, they presented their solutions to their classmates. Here is one of the essays:

Modern cities already have a lot of pollution, and in the future citizens will have to deal with this problem. Many people agree that pollution is the biggest problem we will have to solve in the future, and the bigger the city, the bigger the problem we will have. This will only get worse if we do nothing about it, but… what can we do to reduce the amount of pollution and improve the state of cities?

First of all, to reduce the amount of pollution we should use public transport more often. I consider this solution to be one of the best as it will reduce pollution, traffic and noise and make the city less noisy and more pleasant. entrance-madrid2-640x640x80

Another solution is to take advantage of new technologies such as electric cars, as they are smaller and also cleaner, which benefits the environment. However, they are currently not sufficiently developed and one problem is their high price. Using electric cars will be an optimal solution when there are advances in the technology needed for electric cars.

Finally, we can increase the number of parks in cities. We must also protect green spaces near large cities, as this will help make the air cleaner.

In conclusion, there are many measures that city dwellers can take to reduce the amount of pollution. First of all we must be informed about the problem. The simplest solution for everyone is to use public transport. We can also take other measures to reduce traffic and pollution, especially in the center, where the problem is greater.
