New Cycle of Computer Music Pioneers: digital sound creation for young people between 9 and 14 years old

American Space Madrid relaunches "Computer Music Pioneers" activity in Spanish to teach boys and girls between 9 and 14 years to create music through computer code (live coding) in a new schedule and with a different facilitator.

As explained in ICLC 2019, “live coding is a practice that consists of modifying algorithms for a creative purpose, in real time and often for a physically or virtually present audience.” (...) "From this perspective, they explore various fields of artistic creation such as music, audiovisual creation, performance, robotics or dance, as well as other fields such as scientific-technological research or education."

In this new cycle Steven Delvalle will use the platform Sonic pi to teach kids to create their own melodies and rhythms through computer programming and coding. In addition to immersive hands-on experience, they will also learn about America's computer music pioneers and current American artists.

The activity will take place two Mondays a month until April, except November and December when there will be a single appointment, for an hour and a half from 17:30 p.m. at 19 p.m.

Planned schedule:
Monday, November 19 from 17:30 p.m. to 19:XNUMX p.m.
Wednesday, December 19 from 17:30 p.m. to 19:XNUMX p.m.
Monday, January 21 and 28, from 17:30 p.m. to 19:XNUMX p.m.
Monday, February 18 and 25, from 17:30 p.m. to 19:XNUMX p.m.
Monday, March 18 and 25, from 17:30 p.m. to 19:XNUMX p.m.
Monday, April 22 and 29, from 17:30 p.m. to 19:XNUMX p.m.

The sessions will end with a performance for the public, playing music live with their computers on stage.

It is recommended that each participant bring their own laptop if they can. Steven will be able to help with the installation and any associated issues.

Jesús Jara, former facilitator of the activity, will continue collaborating from time to time as director of the new Municipal School of Music and Dance Central District where the Sonotronics subject is taught, a musical itinerary for boys and girls from 8 to 15 years old, which also includes the creation of music with the computer through digital tools such as Scratch, Sonic Pi, Arduino or Reaper.

In addition to strengthening the growth of a community linked to this practice, American Space Madrid plans to bring to the International Institute some of the American artists who are currently working on live coding.
