The C2 Proficiency Topics course is designed for advanced students who have reached a C2 level and want to further refine their English-speaking skills. This course provides an excellent opportunity to maintain and enhance fluency through dynamic discussions and in-depth analysis of a variety of authentic materials.

Throughout the course, students will engage with materials tailored for an American audience, such as news articles, podcasts, videos, and more. These resources allow students to explore cultural nuances, share their perspectives, and discuss current topics in an interactive environment, with guidance from the instructor.

Course Features:

• Online Access to Materials: All course materials are available through our Moodle platform, allowing students to review content before class and maximize speaking opportunities during lessons.

• Access to Library Resources: Students enjoy full access to the International Institute’s extensive library, including English and Spanish resources, books, magazines, DVDs, and more.

• Priority Access to Institute Activities: Enrolled students receive priority access to cultural and academic activities at the Institute.

This course is centered around active student participation, with a learner-focused approach that encourages collaboration. Working closely with the instructor, students will help choose the themes for discussion, ensuring that the topics resonate with their interests and backgrounds. Each trimester, the course content will adapt to the students’ evolving preferences and current events.

In-Person Cultural Exploration:
Students will also have the opportunity to explore exhibitions around Madrid, engaging in discussions similar to the gallery-going culture in New York, Chicago, and San Francisco, where visiting galleries and exhibitions is a traditional Saturday activity.

Course Materials:
The course will feature authentic content aimed at an English-speaking audience, focusing on North American culture while incorporating Spanish and global viewpoints.

Learning Outcomes:
By the end of the trimester, students who successfully complete this course will be able to:

• Comprehend complex speech: Listen for general content, detail, and inference, handle rapid conversations, interruptions, and understand regional American accents.

• Analyze and express opinions on contemporary issues: Formulate and express opinions, build logical arguments, and propose solutions.

• Skim and scan texts efficiently: Anticipate content, identify main ideas, and extract specific details from written materials; analyze and summarize texts to understand perspectives, attitudes, and underlying issues.
