Welcome to the International Institute's Adult American Language and Culture Program. Our English program has helped improve the language skills of thousands of students in Madrid for more than half a century.
Improve your English with the support of our expert teachers from North America
It all starts with the dynamic learning environment that can only be created at the International Institute. Using a communicative approach, we provide real world contexts for our students to practice new vocabulary and gain the confidence to become fluent.
What differentiates the experience of classes at the Institute is the incorporation of cultural content that goes beyond mere American culture, delving into aspects of American life that only a native teacher can introduce.
Recommended hours per level
The International Institute considers that students must complete approximately 120 hours to pass a level (or almost a full year). However, we know that each student comes to our program with different levels of motivation based on their needs. Students who work in an English-speaking environment, travel internationally for work, or spend extra hours on personal study, will progress faster. When the student considers that he is ready for the next level, we can discuss his progress and help him determine the right time to advance.
Online learning platform that allows learning to continue outside of class
Students have many opportunities outside of class to immerse themselves in cultural subjects guided by our online learning platform, practice listening, reading and writing. All the tools are available for the ambitious learner, including additional grammar and vocabulary practice.
The American library in Madrid and the exclusively American environment of the IIE
The price of the courses includes access to the resources in English and Spanish of our Library located on the ground floor, as well as all its services (loan of books, magazines and DVDs). Also, students enrolled in our English program have priority access to the activities carried out at the Institute.
What's more, the building is home to the study abroad programs of several American universities. This means that walking through the International Institute you can feel as if you are in an American university.
