#StayAtHomeListening #AtHomeWithASM #AtHomeWithIIE
From American Space Madrid we launch the American Cultural Bites sessions “Experimental Music: Theory and Practice” so you can continue listening and creating music from home.
The activity is part of our #AtHomeWithASM virtual programming. We will start in March, with sessions throughout the month of May.
We will focus on experimental compositions that can be done independently and on creating a space for collaboration and “virtual” creation.

A bilingual activity on American culture, within our American Cultural Bites program.
How can you learn about the history of the United States through experimental music? Since September of this year, the American musician and composer Elliot Simpson has taught a bilingual course that traces the history of American experimental music from the post-war period to the present day. We start 2020 with a continuation of this course to continue exploring how music has contributed to the most important cultural debates of the XNUMXth and XNUMXst centuries.
With this in mind, we are launching a new performance group – or, “Ensemble” – that will allow participants to unite theory with practice. Through the analysis and "live" interpretation of works and concepts developed by iconic composers of the American tradition, together with new pieces by contemporary composers and compositions created by the participants of the sessions, we will explore this musical genre.
The activity seeks to incorporate any instrumentalist or singer, and also those participants who have no previous musical experience. Throughout the course, concerts, recordings and collaborations will be organized with various composers who dialogue with the rich history of sound production in the United States.
This activity in its face-to-face version takes place in the Auditorium of the Municipal School of Music and Dance María Dolores Pradera, located at Calle Farmacia, 13.
