On June 23, the Instituto Internacional presents a concert of American songs with Helen Tintes, contralto, together with the students of English and singing from the Escuela Superior de Canto de Madrid, accompanied by the pianist Elías Romero.
The program includes songs by composers such as Samuel Barber, Amy Beach, Lori Laitman and Richard Hageman, opera arias by Gian Carlo Menotti and Douglas Moore and musical works by Stephen Sondheim and Leonard Bernstein, among others.

The students of the Higher School of Singing in Madrid (ESCM)
Students from the ESCM English and Singing classes sing, prepared by the teachers Cristina Sánchez and Mª del Carmen García Jimenez. Dr. Tintes has been her improvement teacher.
Helen Tintes, alto
Helen Tints is an accomplished singer, actress, and voice teacher. She regularly works opera, oratorio, concerts and musicals. Recent performances include On the Town with Opera Naples (FL), The Messiahs with the Ft. Myers' Mastersingers, a double bill featuring Puccini Operas with FM Opera: Sister Angelica (Zia Principessa) and Gianni Schicchi (Zita) and with Gulfshore Opera: Rigoletto (Giovanna) and La Traviata (Anna). Future events include concerts and masterclasses in Vienna, SW Florida, and Madrid.
Tintes has performed in Europe and the US and has given master classes in Austria, Spain, Finland, Estonia, Hungary, China and Mexico. She has taught at Northwestern University, the University of South Carolina, in Vienna at the Musik und Kunst Privatuniversität and as head of the music department at Ave Maria University, Florida. She is currently a singing teacher at Florida Gulf Coast University. Her students work in theaters in Europe and the US, as well as teachers, artistic administrators or in sacred music.
Tintes holds a PhD from Northwestern University (Chicago) and is a 2023 Fulbright Scholar Award recipient in Greece and Spain.
Elias Romero
Pianist from Madrid, Elías Romero is Professor of Solfeggio, Transposition and Accompaniment, Senior Professor of Piano and Chamber Music, Bachelor of Fine Arts from the UCM, doctoral student in Art History at Unizar. He currently develops his teaching work at the Escuela Superior de Canto de Madrid as a teacher of vocal repertoire.
As a pianist, he performs concerts in different countries in Europe, Asia and America, and gives performance masterclasses. She has made recordings for RNE and the Ministry of Culture (INAEM) and cd's with chamber music and singing. She has received the UNICEF Honorary Distinction.
He collaborates regularly with the Guerrero Foundation as a pianist, concertmaster, musical and artistic director in China, Turkey and Argentina. He has also participated in various theatrical productions in important theaters and festivals in Spain as musical director, pianist and actor.
Elías Romero carries out an intense concert activity with singers and chamber groups in Spain, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, France, Argentina, Paraguay, China, Turkey, and Saudi Arabia.
