Cycle of Concerts “Atando Cuerdas”, Second Session “Boreas and Serenades”

In celebration of the fifth anniversary of American Space Madrid, the International Institute presents a cycle of concerts that seeks to highlight the creative dialogue that occurs between Spain and the United States after the collaboration of composers who are responsible for the great contemporary innovations in chamber music contemporary. Each concert combines contemporary works from Spain and the United States, linking these pieces with a broad and diverse historical repertoire. Each concert will include a brief introduction to the program with the guest artists and composers and will end with a round of questions, thus highlighting the conversations that are an integral part of the study of contemporary classical music composition. The cycle will end with a talk and performance by the composer and musician David del Puerto.

This cycle is a product of the research work and artistic work of composer and Fulbright scholar Jeremy Bass, who together with David del Puerto is responsible for the recording of David del Puerto: Guitar Sonatas, Volume 1. His ambitious project considers the comings and goings between American and Spanish artists and composers who seek to broaden and deepen the repertoire of contemporary Spanish music for guitar.

Talk and performance with composer David del Puerto

classical guitarist Jeremy bass (Albuquerque, 1983) is a performer specialized in contemporary guitar music, although he also enjoys the rich historical literature of the instrument.

He is also committed to the interpretation of contemporary chamber music. In this sense, it is worth noting the recording of the Quartetby Juan Trigos, and the interpretations of 4midable4 by Girolamo Deraco Sounds of cold land by Ricardo Zohn, Brion by Harold Meltzer Shapeshifter by Marc Yeats and Salut für Caudwell by Helmut Lachmann. Composers such as David del Puerto, Luca Cori, Juan Trigos and John Hedger have dedicated pieces for guitar to him.

Jeremy has performed with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, the Peoria Symphony Orchestra, and the Lexington Chamber Orchestra. He was a member of SoundSCAPE and Nief-Norf and invited to collaborate with Alia Musica Pittsburgh and CCM's Cafe MoMus.

His main teachers have been Dieter Hennings, Andrew Zohn and Rafael Scarfullery. He has graduate degrees from the University of Kentucky (DMA) and Columbus State University (MM).

Jeremy is a 2018-2019 Fulbright Scholar for research and interpretation of contemporary Spanish music for guitar in collaboration with musicologists Belén Pérez Castillo and Javier Suárez Pajares, both professors at the Complutense University of Madrid. your recording David del Puerto: Guitar Sonatas, Volume 1 represents the first phase of this ambitious project.
