As part of the cycle of activities offered in collaboration with the Teatro Real and its current staging of the opera Dead Man Walking, we invite you to a free screening of the film version of the work.
The event will be presented by Carrie Klewin Lawrence, professor of the IIE mini-course Page to Stage, which will explore the work of Dead Man Walking as a book, film, and opera. After the projection, a debate will be opened on the content and message of the work.
From 1995, starring Susan Sarandon and Sean Penn and directed by Tim Robbins, the film is based on a true event. Sister Helen Prejean was the spiritual advisor to Mathew Poncelet, a murderer sentenced to death in the state of Louisiana in 1982 for murdering two teenagers.
A deeply moving and spiritual testimony to the American criminal justice system, the film was nominated for 4 Oscars and won one, Best Actress for Susan Sarandon.
The screening will be in English VO with Spanish subtitles.
