Young Learners 5 Exchange with MIT Students
In January the Young Learners 5 class enjoyed an informative question-and-answer session with three students visiting us from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). MIT is a prestigious American university in Cambridge, MA. The class had the opportunity to ask about the life of a university student in the USA, compare the Spanish and American education systems, and learn more in general about MIT. They particularly benefited from the perspective of Dodo, an MIT student from China, who spoke about how she adapted to living in the United States as an international student. The talk was an excellent way for students to learn more about American culture and use their language skills to communicate in a real-life setting.

“In MIT students can live in dorms that are bedrooms or they also can sleep outside the university. There are lots of people with different cultures and there are like 4000 students. They have different extra activities, for example clubs like acapella or sports.”
“It was very interesting because they show the way that the MIT works and their experiences, especially Dodo because she is an international student and that is what we would like to be in the future.”
En enero la clase de Young Learners 5 asistió a una sesión informativa con tres alumnas del Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). MIT es una universidad prestigiosa estadounidense de la ciudad de Cambridge. Los niños tuvieron la oportunidad de hacer preguntas sobre la vida cotidiana de los estudiantes universitarios en los Estados Unidos, comparar los sistemas educativos de ambos países, y aprender más sobre MIT. Se beneficiaron en particular de la perspectiva de Dodo, una alumna China del MIT que les contó sus experiencias como estudiante internacional en los Estados Unidos. La charla fue una buena oportunidad para aprender más sobre la cultura americana y poner en práctica las habilidades lingüísticas aprendidas en la clase.

“Pensamos que fue una exposición muy interesante y aprendimos bastante de ellas. En MIT los estudiantes pueden dormir dentro del campus o fuera. Hay muchos estudiantes con diferentes culturas y hay como 4.000 alumnos. Tienen diferentes actividades extras como acapella o deportes.”
“La charla ha sido muy interesante porque nos han enseñado cómo funciona la universidad MIT y sus experiencias, especialmente Dodo porque ella es una alumna internacional como nosotros queremos ser.”
