All the Light We Cannot See por Anthony Doerr
All the Light We Cannot See es una novela de ficción histórica ambientada durante la Segunda Guerra Mundial. El libro sigue dos historias distintas: Marie-Laure, una chica ciega que vive en París y tiene que escapar por la ocupación de los nazis, y Werner Pfennig, un huérfano de un pueblo minero en Alemania. Marie-Laure y su padre, que trabaja en el Museo Natural de la Historia, huyen París al pueblo costero de Saint-Malo, llevando consigo una joya peligrosa y misteriosa de la colección del museo para protegerla de los nazis. All the Light We Cannot See is a historical fiction novel set during World War II, following Marie-Laure, a young blind girl living in Nazi-occupied Paris, and Werner Pfenning, an orphan from a mining town in Germany. Soon, Marie-Laure and her father, who works at the Natural Museum of History, escape to the seaside village of Saint-Malo, carrying with them a dangerous and mysterious jewel from the museum’s collection to harbor from the Nazis. After discovering and fixing up an old radio that recounts enchanting stories from across Europe, Werner later finds himself recruited to track down members of the Nazi resistance due to his radio skills. Both Marie-Laure and Werner’s stories are intricate and distinct, but Doerr manages to weave the two narratives together seamlessly—to this day, All the Light We Cannot See is one of the most sensory-rich, evocative books I have ever read. At its core, All the Light We Cannot See is a story about human connection amidst times of unperceivable tragedy, about finding goodness in one another. I would definitely recommend it to any lover of historical fiction, as it remains one of my favorites in the genre to this day!
Last Night at the Telegraph Club por Malinda Lo
Last Night at the Telegraph Club está ambientado en San Francisco, Chinatown, en los cincuenta. Cuando Lilly Hu, una chica China-Americana de diecisiete años, ve a Kathleen Miller en un bar lésbico que se llama The Telegraph Club, su vida comienza a desmoronarse ante ella. Last Night at the Telegraph Club is set in 1950s San Francisco, Chinatown. When Lilly Hu, a seventeen-year-old Chinese-American girl, spots Kathleen Miller walking into a charming lesbian bar called “The Telegraph Club,” she feels her life begin to unravel before her. As Lilly begins to grapple with her identity, and her relationship with Kathleen starts to unfurl, she is forced to confront the outside forces of San Francisco that also loom over her face: the Red Scare, her father’s possible deportation, and the city´s still rampant homophobia. Last Night at the Telegraph is a beautiful story about two girls falling in love, but it is also a story about identity, family, and sanctuary. Malinda Lo’s writing is incredibly evocative, and the voice of Lilly is candid and poignant. I would recommend this book to anyone who lives sensory-rich historical fiction and coming of age stories!

On Earth We’re Briefly Gorgeous por Ocean Vuong
On Earth We‘re Briefly Gorgeous es una carta de un hijo escrita a una madre que no puede leer. En la carta, el orador, Little Dog, en la veintena, refleja la historia de su familia en Vietnam además de sus memorias creciendo en Hartford, Connecticut. Sobre todo, el libro es una ventana a la vida de Little Dog que su madre nunca ha visto—y la historia es un testamento a la complejidad de las relaciones entre madres y sus hijos. On Earth We‘re Briefly Gorgeous is written in the form of a letter from a son to a mother who cannot read. Following Little Dog, the speaker, in his late twenties, the letter reminisces on his family’s history in Vietnam, as well as his memories of growing up in Hartford, Connecticut. Above all, the book serves as a portal to parts of Little Dog’s life that his mother has never heard about, and it is a beautiful testament to the complexity of mother-son relationships. On Earth We‘re Briefly Gorgeous is about many things, but it is most resolutely about family, identity, and learning to grapple with generational trauma. Even more so, On Earth We‘re Briefly Gorgeous is one of the most lyrically beautiful books I have ever read; Ocean Vuong’s poet background sings through on every page, and I was left incredibly awestruck after finishing the novel. I´d recommend this book to any lover of poetry or contemporary fiction!
All My Rage por Sabaa Tahir
All My Rage por Sabaa Tahir es una novela contemporánea para adultos jóvenes. La historia principal sigue dos cronologías en dos lugares distintos—Lahore, Pakistán (antes) y Juniper, California (ahora)—y explora la intersección entre Misbah, una cuentacuentos que se vio obligada a mudarse a los Estados Unidos de su hogar en Pakistán, su hijo Sal y amiga Noor mientras se crecen en California en la actualidad. All My Rage by Sabaa Tahir is a young adult contemporary fiction novel. Following two distinct timelines in two distinct places—Lahore, Pakistan (“then”) and Juniper, California (“now”)—the story explores the intersection between Misbah, a storyteller who was forced to move to the United States from Pakistan, and her son Sal and his friend Noor as they grow up in present-day Southern California. As Misbah’s health begins to fail, Sal scrambles to save the family business, and Noor attempts to find a way out of Juniper, a fateful decision shakes the family forever. All My Rage is told in three distinct perspectives, and Sabaa Tahir’s incredible storytelling forces the reader to think about questions of justice, what we would do for our loved ones, and how to grapple with our past. All My Rage was one of the most impactful books I read in high school, and I´d recommend it to anyone and everyone!

Six of Crows por Leigh Bardugo
Hasta la fecha, Six of Crows todavía es uno de mis libros favoritos de todos los tiempos. Es un libro épico de fantasía que tiene lugar en el mundo que Bardugo llama “Grishaverse” y sigue la historia de seis ladrones distintos mientras se disponen a completar un atraco imposible. Aunque cambia muchas veces la perspectiva en el libro entre los seis protagonistas, Bardugo revela las motivaciones y trasfondos de cada personaje. Es una historia de suspense y el sistema de magia es increíblemente lúcido y ayuda a construir un mundo evocativo. Hay una serie precuela que se llama Shadow and Bone, pero no es necesario leer primero, aunque puede ayudar al lector a entender el sistema de la magia y añadir contexto al mundo. To this day, Six of Crows remains one of my favorite books of all time! An epic fantasy novel set in Leigh Bardugo’s world of the “Grishaverse,” Six of Crows follows the story of six distinct thieves as they set off to undertake an impossible heist. Though the perspective changes throughout the book to reveal the intricate motivations and backstories of each character, Leigh Bardugo never fails to keep the reader on their toes as the heist unfolds! Even moreso, the magic system is incredibly lucid and helps build an incredibly evocative world. There is a prequel series to Six of Crows titled Shadow and Bone, but it is not necessary to read it first, though it may help provide additional context about the magic system. I would recommend this book to any and all fantasy lovers—it is definitely a must-read!
Circe por Madeline Miller
Circe, como sugiere el título, es una reinterpretación del mito griego de Circe, la famosa bruja de la Odisea. Madeline Miller, la escritora, aporta su propio giro a la historia, ampliando la visión de este famoso personaje a menudo mal entendido. Su prosa exuberante y lírica hace que la novela se lea como poesía. Circe, as the title suggests, is a retelling of the myth of Circe, the famous witch from The Odyssey. Madeline Miller brings her own twist to the story, expanding upon the often-misunderstood character from the famous epic, and her lush and lyrical prose makes the novel read like near-poetry. Because Circe is neither god nor human (born to the sun god Helios and a nymph) she is an outsider to her family, and after discovering her talent for witchcraft, she is soon banished to live on a desert island. The novel details Circe’s various adventures with her island visitors, as well as her place as a figure who lives between both the mortal and immortal realms. Above all, Madeline Miller asks what it means to be human, and what it means to grow up, offering a fresh and feminist perspective to the ancient story of Circe. I would recommend it to any lover of classics—it is by far one of my favorite retellings that I have thus far read. Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller is also an excellent retelling, though to this day, Circe remains my favorite.

The Inheritance Games por Jennifer Lynn Barnes
¡Si estás buscando un libro de misterio muy divertido, The Inheritance Games es perfecto! The Inheritance Games is an incredibly fun, puzzling novel—a perfect and easier read for anyone who enjoys mystery and suspense!
