The fun continued in the last two weeks of Summer in the City! We started with a California theme week, with lots of great ideas from Alicia, Christine and Katie, who are all from California. Our SUMMER IN THE CITY camp has started off really well. Our first two weekly themes were THE WONDERS OF THE WORLD and FANTASTIC STORIES. On Saturday, June 16th, the Young Learners Saturday classes did a show for their parents and classmates. Young Learners 2 and 4 did “Readers’ Theater” pieces, Young Learners 3 did a newscast with some amazing stories, and Young Learners 6 students acted as greeters and presenters for all the other acts. This spring Kids’ Club students in Patti’s group read Flat Stanley, by Jeff Brown. This book tells the story of a boy, Stanley Lambchop, who becomes flat after a bulletin board falls on him in the night. Being flat allows Stanley to have lots of adventures. In May Alicia’s class learned about writing instructions, so they decided to make peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, an American favorite, to practice explaining a recipe.
