New silent film screening with live improvised musical accompaniment by Sonia Megías: this time it will be the classic “City Lights” by Charles Chaplin.
* About the movie “City Lights”:
“City Lights” is a 1931 American film written, directed, and starring Charlie Chaplin. It occupies the eleventh position in the list of the hundred best films made by the American Film Institute in 2007. It tells the story of a poor tramp (Charles Chaplin) who goes through a thousand and one ups and downs to get money and help a poor girl blind woman (Virginia Cherrill) with whom he has fallen in love.
*About Sonia Megias:
Sonia Megías is a composer and pianist. She studied piano, viola and composition at the Almansa and Murcia conservatories. She studied composition and choir conducting in Trieste, music pedagogy at the Complutense University of Madrid, and composition and music theory at NYU Postgraduate thanks to a Fulbright scholarship. She has received various artistic scholarships and commissions: Villa Medici (Rome-France, 2005), I-Park (Connecticut, 2008, 2011), Casa de Velázquez (Madrid-France, 2009). INAEM commissions (2009, 2011) and other private commissions. She is director of the Fullbright Choir and the experimental choir “CoroDelantal”.
