Route 66 Women: The Untold Story of the Mother Road is a three-part documentary film series that uncovers the extraordinary lives and achievements of women who overcome gender discrimination and segregation to build fulfilling lives for themselves and generations to come on America's most iconic highway. From entrepreneurs to waitresses, from anthropologists to politicians, from artists to military sergeants, these women transformed their communities and the American West for the better through their hard work, perseverance and ingenuity.
In honor of International Women's History Month, the Institute will screen Episode One of this three-part series on March 7th at 7pm. The film's producer and director, Katrina Parks, will be present to introduce the film and to lead a post-viewing discussion.

Katrina Parks – Producer and Director
As a documentary filmmaker, Katrina is interested in stories that feature strong women and she seeks out projects that enrich our cultural surroundings. Her latest documentary, “Route 66: The Untold Story of Women on the Mother Road,” has been distributed through American Public Television (APT) and broadcast on public television stations throughout the US. “The Harvey Girls: Opportunity Bound” marked Katrina's debut as a director and was also distributed by APT. In her documentaries about women's history, Katrina has collaborated with various agencies in the field of public history to carry out projects and organize public educational events. Her television credits include programs for a variety of broadcasters. Her short film, “Wrappings,” which she wrote and directed, won a SASA award from the United Nations. Katrina graduated with a degree in Fine Arts from the University of New Mexico and a Master's of Fine Arts in Film Production from San Francisco State University. She is currently completing her Master's degree in Contemporary History at the Complutense University in Madrid. Katrina is co-founder of the organization Cinefemme, which supports the work of women filmmakers. She is also a member of the Producers Guild of America.
