“Danzad, danzad, damned, in Latin America Baile de ilusiones (They Shoot Horses, Don't They?) is a film by Sydney Pollack, based on the novel Do they not kill the horses? by Horace McCoy. During the Great Depression, shows were staged that consisted of making couples dance continuously, day and night, with only short breaks. The couple that resisted the longest was the winner and received a cash prize. Gloria (Jane Fonda) and Robert (Michael Sarrazin) meet there and decide to form a couple. They are desperate because they have nothing to eat. While they dance at least they get food, and if they win they can survive on the prize money.”
