“It all started with a story. In 1990, the writer Paul Auster published in the "New York Times" a story entitled "Auggie Wren's Christmas Carol", in which he told the story of a clerk who every morning, precisely at eight o'clock, takes a photograph from his little corner of the world, a cigar store on the corner of Third Street and Eighth Avenue in Brooklyn. This little anecdote was the germ of the screenplay for Smoke, Paul Auster's first film adventure, which he wrote for director Wayne Wang.
