YL 5 designs a healthier breakfast

IMG_7527In March the Young Learners 5 class worked on a project to create a healthier alternative to the American breakfast. After completing a unit about food and nutrition, students compared the traditional breakfasts of children around the world. They discussed problems resulting from bad eating habits and how change can benefit people. The goal of their project was to create a new breakfast menu for Americans. The breakfast had to be healthy, but representative of the United States. At the end of the project, students presented their breakfast ideas with a persuasive speech and the class voted for their favorite breakfast.

Some of the menu options the YL5 class came up with were:

  • Oatcakes with strawberry syrup IMG_7530
  • granola and berries
  • Strawberry cake (in the shape of the American flag, of course!)
  • Boiled eggs and whole-wheat toast with tomato
