STEAM Week: from September 2 to 6, 2019

STEAM Week at American Space Madrid

A mini-camp for makers, scientists and engineers from our community

from 2 to 6 September 2019 • 17:30 – 19:30

From September 2 to 6, American Space Madrid offers a mini-camp to introduce boys and girls from 8 to 14 years old in our monthly program of activities that promote creativity and autonomy through their contact with science, technology, engineering and art. Every day there will be a two-hour session of one of our monthly activities where our instructors will create a creative and collaborative environment, useful for acquiring new knowledge about the use of technology.

  • Monday September 2 / Computer Music Pioneers: In this activity, participants will learn to create music through "live coding" with the help of the Sonic Pi platform. They will learn to create their own melodies and rhythms through computer programming and coding. Step by step, they will delve into algorithms and learn to solve problems through logic and creative thinking.
  • Tuesday, September 3 / ASM Science Club: In this activity, ESCUELAB facilitators introduce the concept of scientific experimentation to the participants to encourage their interest in different scientific fields, including biology, physics and the natural sciences. In this session, the participants will participate in a workshop called "Marble Machines", an experiment where they will learn how to build a marble circuit, responding to different challenges that will allow them to develop their creativity and teamwork to the maximum, using also recycled material to make the workshop more sustainable.
  • Wednesday, September 4 / Light & Sound: Complementing "Computer Music Pioneers", this activity combines "live coding", computer programming and the creation of electronic circuits through an introduction to Arduino. Participants will learn to integrate musical composition with electronics after programming rhythms and bursts of light with LEDs.
  • Thursday, September 5 / Maker Club I: The Maker Club at American Space Madrid is a collaborative workspace for making, learning, exploring and sharing knowledge in which we will use both new technologies and traditional tools. This first workshop will include an introduction to electronics with exercises with Littlebits.
  • Friday September 6 / Maker Club II:  This second session of our Maker Club will include an introduction to 3D printing.

Ages: Sessions will include two age ranges, including primary (8-11 years old) and secondary (12-14 years old) students.

ASM events are free and open to the public. ASM will confirm participation once registration is received.

Limited.

Registration: To participate, it is necessary to register each child individually for each day they want to participate in the camp. Registration can be done through the entries in our agenda: iie.es/agenda
